CASE STUDY: REYES FAMILY HISTORIC HOME EXPANSION ATLANTA, GA
HISTORIC HOME USES FLEXIBLE STORMWATER PRODUCT ON EXPANSION PROJECT
When an Atlanta area homeowner began a renovation project to expand the size of his historic home, part of the project included a stormwater plan. Once construction started and excavation began, they discovered an underground pipe system not previously identified and that was not on the as-built plan. The old pipes posed a problem since the remodel had called for the placement of a StormChamber system beneath the ground and the pipes were essentially in the way.
NDS COMES TO THE RESCUE WITH REDESIGN
The homeowner was already working with NDS on the layout of the water management system, so he reached out to the DesignWorx team again to see if there was an alternate solution to the original plan. Quick to respond, NDS came up with a new layout to reposition the product, changing the east/west chamber orientation to north/south to fit around the underground pipes.
The flexibility of the system allowed them to reconfigure the chambers in the field, taking the chambers they already had and altering their location for a quick redesign. That’s not easy to do if a contractor is using other solutions, such as corrugated pipes.
The redesign only needed to add two additional end units to replace the middle section and shift in row orientation. Because the chambers are designed to accommodate a side inlet, they provide greater flexibility in engineering and hydraulic design.
PROJECT BACK ON TRACK IN NO TIME
The NDS StormChamber system utilizes an internal manifold so it is incredibly easy to install and more cost effective than competitive products, making it an ideal solution for both commercial and residential applications for storing and infiltrating water underground. The project was back on track without needing to add costs for removing the old piping system. NDS had materials in stock and was able to ship the additional end units to the homesite and complete the installation all in the same week. Even with the unexpected redesign, this home renovation was finished on-time and as planned.
