CASE STUDY: RESORT VENUE PICKS NDS DRAINS FOR DESIGN AESTHETICS, OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE

UPSCALE HOTEL USES NDS DRAINS AND GRATES AROUND OUTDOOR PARTY VENUE

Project Name: Hotel Domestique
Location: Travelers Rest, SC
Products: Channel Drains
Property Type: Hotel/Resort
Partners: Seamon Whiteside
Hotel Domestique Before

Hotel Domestique is an upscale destination golf and cycling resort and wedding venue nestled in the base of Blue Ridge Mountain in South Carolina. The luxurious rooms and suites on the hotel’s inside are matched with equally picturesque views that make it the perfect location for large outdoor events and weddings.

The courtyard at the hotel is one of the biggest draws as it features a central reflecting pool and fountain area surrounded by an exposed aggregate patio. Engineering and design services firm Seamon Whiteside was called in to redo the patio area, which included coming up with a solution for managing stormwater – there was a need for an extremely discreet drainage solution – one that provided a heel-proof channel since the area often had people roaming about for weddings and special events in formal party attire. The remodel required the removal of all of the old drainage as well as a resurfacing of the courtyard patio area.

COMBO OF PRE-SLOPED AND MINI DRAINS OFFER MAXIMUM RESULTS

Hotel Domestique After

Seamon Whiteside contacted NDS for design help and product recommendations, specifically for products consistent with the upscale, unique venue and fixtures. Because we offer a number of different products, the DesignWorx team determined the most appropriate solution was a combination of two different products.

The first was the Dura Slope channel drain with a slot top grate around the patio perimeter since it’s virtually undetectable once it’s placed in concrete. Being that it’s hidden, it makes for an easy decision as it maintains the current look of everything while also fitting the heelproof criteria.

The team also recommended the project incorporate mini channel drains around the space with exposed, elegantly designed brass grates, which fit the aesthetics of the surrounding hardscape

IN THE TRENCHES ONSITE

The contractor had to remove the old drainage system as well as resurface the entire patio so there were unanticipated challenges that arose in the reconstruction and our NDS spec manager was there every step of the way to ensure product availability and appropriate placement of the channels.

Even though NDS products are designed for easy installation, our team still had a stormwater expert onsite to ensure the best outcome possible. This was particularly important as the contractor, while familiar with installing channel drain, had not previously worked with slot top grates.

“Dura Slope is one of the fastest growing of our trench drain line. Once customers nd it and use it, they continue to use it because they realize it does a fantastic job of draining water while being almost undetectable. Plus it comes in both stainless and galvanized steel.” - Bryan P., NDS
