Seashore Fruit and Produce Company is one of New Jersey’s leading commercial food distributors. In the spring of 2017, Seashore hired DRK and Associates to retrofit a new distribution warehouse.
DRK's search to find the right drainage solution for this distribution facility was guided by their local supplier, Atlantic Plumbing, who pointed them to the NDS team for support, since they trust NDS as a manufacturer to provide technical expertise. After assessing the location and needs of the warehouse, the NDS DesignWorx team recommended the Filcoten channel drain due to its ability to handle high load capacities.
DRAINS AND GRATES WITHSTAND HEAVY LOADS AND TEMPS
Capable of handling up to DIN load F and exceeding ASHTO H20 requirements, NDS Filcoten channel drains was perfect for this type of warehouse as these channel drains are designed specifically for factories, garages and busy parking lots. Filcoten is a high-performance concrete (HPC) channel drain, engineered to bond monolithically to the surrounding concrete for superior freeze/thaw performance.
Ultimately, the Filcoten NW200 8" channel was selected to handle the calculated hydraulic requirements and was paired with an extra heavy-duty ductile iron DIN load E grate. Filcoten channels are manufactured with an integrated galvanized steel rail down each side to firmly secure the grate for heavier traffic loads. An added benefit is that the channels are designed with a built-in .05% slope for positive drainage, which also helps the warehouse clear the channels of TSS, debris and food.

In preparation for installation, the DesignWorx team put together a complete system drawing layout, showing exactly how the product was to be laid out, which helped DRK install on time and within budget.
